As the founder, curator + lover of all things skincare, I frequently get asked questions beyond 'what is my favorite product.' Here, I have compiled a few of the most popular topics I chat with people about in the store + a few of my current product must-haves.
HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT CHOOSING YOUR SKINCARE BRANDS?
Research, testing and connecting with the founders. I’m always considering who the line is best for, concerns the products address and what is compelling about the brand and brand story. The industry is robust so I like to draw out what’s new, maybe even unknown to balance the store curation. I want all of my customers to feel like I have something for them.
WHAT SKINCARE CONCERN DO YOU GET ASKED ABOUT MOST?
Dry skin! People in our climate seem to struggle with getting their skin to feel soft and hydrated. My must do is face oil AFTER moisturizer both morning and night because it locks in all of the hard-working actives and creates another barrier before you go out into the wild. When I want to bring out the big guns, my biggest indulgence is La Fervance Eclát Extraordinaire which is a 100% natural, gold infused magic pot of hydration and glow.
WHAT IS YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE (MORNING AND EVENING)?
My bathroom vanity looks like the store because I am constantly mixing it up (I have every brand represented on the counter!). However, I always cleanse, tone, serum, moisturize and end with a face oil. What I like to change up are the products I’m using as I think the skin responds well to variety. Plus, we are constantly in a state of chance so what we responded to in our 20s or even last year will likely be different today.
Lately, I’ve been layering Ignae’s Blue Light Serum and Ayuna’s Terra Viva Vitamin D nectar in the morning and alternating the Ambari PM Serum with Heraux’s Anti-Inflammation Serum in the evening. I tend to slather on Irene Forte Hibiscus Night Cream or Augustinus Bader’s Rich Cream twice a day. My go to face oil is African Botanics Neroli Face Oil because I love the scent and how quickly it absorbs.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE OF SKINCARE LOOK LIKE?
I think the future is in stem cell rejuvenation. Products from Heraux, Venn and Ignae are formulated to repair inflammation to give skin a chance to heal naturally. Products like these, with multi molecular weights, help the actives penetrate the dermis on a deeper level.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
Put down the Seabreeze. And for the love of God, stay out of the tanning bed.
