Admittedly, my vanity looks like my store. One of everything plus all the brands I am testing. It's easy to feel a little overwhelmed + be tempted to overdo but I know sticking to the basic routine is the best way to get the ultimate benefits for my skin.
STEP ONE: CLEANSE
But first, wash your hands. I prefer to cleanse 2x per day. Some believe 1x is enough but since your skin naturally detoxes while you sleep, it's good to remove what comes to the surface, even if just a light sweep. Pro tip: Oil balm cleansers can double as masks. I love to use at night and leave on while I cook dinner or just unwind for the evening.
STEP TWO: MIST
This is the step most likely to get passed over but shouldn't be. Mists (aka toners with a spray application) are packed with powerhouse ingredients that hydrate, soothe, balance + prepare the skin for treatment. Pro tip: Mist throughout the day to reactivate product actives and give yourself a hydration boost.
STEP THREE: SERUM
Think of serums as the vitamins for your skin. Anything from a vitamin C, vitamin B, retinol or all-in-one serum that are meant to treat + heal your skin. Pro tip: Let the product absorb before applying your moisturizer. Oil based serums may take a few extra seconds, give them a chance to penetrate fully.
STEP FOUR: MOISTURIZER
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Can't emphasize this enough. Dry skin is usually inflamed skin. And inflammation is the root of most, if not all, aging issues. Be generous with your application. Pro tip: Don't be afraid to use a night cream as your day cream. The density of night creams is often what we need in dry climates, traveling and treating sun exposure.

STEP FIVE: FACE OIL
Seal the deal + lock in all of the vitamins + hydration with a drop or two of face oil. Face oils create a healthy, protective barrier for your skin. Pro tip: Mix a drop into your moisturizer if you're short on time!
If all else fails, remember lightest weight to heaviest weight.
I think the best skincare routine should feel like slipping on your favorite pair of jeans + t-shirt. Easy. Loving. Basic.
